'Stroll' set in Averill

    From 1869 to the early 1890s, Michigan supplied more lumber than any state in the Union, peaking in 1889, when 5 1/2 billion board feet were produced. Just west of Midland City at a bend in the Tittabawassee River, the small town of Averill boasted the "largest banking grounds in the world" as more than 20 million board feet of lumber was piled there each winter.

George E. "˜Buddy"™ West

ODESSA George E. "Buddy" West, age 71, went to be with the Lord June 25, 2008, at Hospice House. Representative Buddy West is a native Texan. He was born in Ballinger, Texas October 9, 1936, and moved to Odessa from Ballinger in March 1944. He married Shirley Porter, March 22, 1956, in Odessa.
